This August, Three Shires Ltd started work on the new £6.5m Ilkeston Station. Ilkeston is the largest town in the UK which has rail line running through it but without its own station. The development is intended to link the town to the Northern rail line from Sheffield to Nottingham.
The site was subject to extensive ecological surveys which identified the presence Great crested newts (GCN are protected under UK & European law). TSL were commissioned by RSK group to create suitable alternative newt habitat off-site and install newt fencing to enable the newts to be removed from site prior to construction.
